Harry Goes to Dog School by Scott Menchin. Harry is a little boy who wants to be a dog. His parents keep trying to get him interested in boy things, but Harry just growls and ruffs and licks. Finally his parents decide to send him to dog school. Pavlov Royal Academy is the name of the school, and Harry is the newest student. For Harry it is a dream come true. All his classmates are dogs. Harry loves everything they do until lunch... It is not what he expected. As the day goes on Harry finds that he misses a lot of things that little boys do, like baseball and riding his bike. He also finds out that there are some things that he doesn’t like about being a dog. Dogs can’t color or build with blocks. Finally, at the end of the day, Harry announces at dinner: “I think I would like to be a boy again.” Harry’s parents are OK with that. Then Harry goes to a new school with kids and behaves like a boy... most of the time. See this book listed in our catalog

Otis and the Tornado
Submitted by Ms. Janis!
Otis and the Tornado by Loren Long. Otis the tractor and his animal friends around the farm have a happy life of games. One day they decided to play follow-the-leader and everyone joins in, except the bull, who would "snort and snarl and huff hot air" if any of the animals got too close to his private pasture. When a tornado is spotted in the near distance, the farmer runs for cover without even checking on the animals. Otis heads for the barn and unlatches the stalls so that the animals can go to lower ground. Just then, Otis hears the bellowing of the bull, whose pen is directly in the path of the tornado. He chugs as fast as he can to release the mean bull. The bull joins the other animals in the shelter and, in the aftermath of the storm, becomes a new playmate. Otis and the Tornado is about friendship and loyalty. It is also a remarkable weather story that would fit well into early science curriculum. The vivid description of the tornado is well matched with the art and shows the impending danger of the storm. Listeners are certain to cheer Otis on in this tale of doing what is right, despite the dangers. Loren Long stated it very well: “I hope you'll share Otis with a little one in your life. And together you'll get to know a friendly little tractor who works hard and plays hard and always has time for another friend. I hope that new friend is you.” See this book listed in our catalog

Soo's Boo-Boos
Submitted by Ms. Tammy!
In Soo’s Boo-Boos by Tilda Balsley, Soo enters the house holding up boo-boo number 10! A scratched arm. She goes through her boo-boos one at a time explaining each one to her mother. Her toe rubs inside her shoe, her lips are chapped, her nose drips, she has burned her tongue on a hot waffle, and the list goes on, until she reaches number 10. Mom thinks for a moment, then quickly has a solution for each of the boo-boos. She puts a hot pink band-aid on her arm, new shoes for her toe, cherry flavored Chap Stick for her lips, a cold popsicle for a burnt tongue, and soft tissue for her nose... Once mom has taken care of each boo-boo, Soo heads back outside for more fun! See this book listed in our catalog

Lucky Socks
Submitted by Ms. Tess!
Lucky Socks by Carrie Weston, with pictures by Charlotte Middleton, is sure to resonate with your superstitious child, or your child who just has a favorite piece of clothing or outfit they want to wear every day (I think you know what I'm talking about)! On Monday Kevin wore his red socks. It was a bad day. He spilled his milk, and was late for school. On Tuesday he wore his green socks. It was a bad day. He got his spelling wrong, and popped one of his bicycle tires. On Wednesday he wore his blue socks. It was a bad day. It rained, and he dropped his sticker collection. On Thursday he wore his striped socks. It was a bad day. His pet beetle escaped, and lunch was "meat loaf surprise." On Friday he wore his yellow socks. IT WAS A FANTASTIC DAY! Mrs. Riley chose him to be the star of the school play! The next time he wore his yellow socks, he went camping, and had ice cream! The next time he wore his yellow socks, his ball didn't go over the fence, not even once! Obviously these socks are lucky socks... So what might happen if one day Kevin can't find his yellow socks? Will disaster strike? Or can mom some how save the day? Find out what becomes of Kevin and his socks in the cute, funny, and relatable Lucky Socks. See this book listed in our catalog

The Crown On Your Head
Submitted by Ms. Allana!
The Crown On Your Head by Nancy Tillman is a wonderful poem turned into a fabulous picture book for young children. I was instantly attracted to the cover art, and when I explored the pages I was immediately captivated. It is a charming, very touching poem describing the love that you have for your child. The breathtaking illustrations whisk both parent and child away to the colorful, magical realm within. “I always knew what your crown meant. It said that you were MAGNIFICENT. You were born to shine.” These are beautiful, loving words, both encouraging and inspirational. This book will give you a warm and fuzzy feeling as you cuddle up with your little prince, or princess to read it! See this book listed in our catalog

AlphaOops! The Day Z Went First
Submitted by Ms. Carol!
Alpha Oops! The Day Z Went First by Alethea Kontis is an alphabet book. The story starts out with A of course, until Z appears and demands A stop. Z and Zebra are sick and tired of always being last in line. They demand free and equal treatment. Y agrees it's time for a change. All the letters agree to give it a try. They start out going backwards in order until P decides to go out of turn because he is sick of being stuck in the middle all the time. They agree P is right and so the letters start going out of turn. A thinks this is just a mess but Z thinks it will be great. The letters all argue about where they get to go in line and how many things they get to say that begin with their letter. It all gets pretty confusing. By the time A gets his turn at the end, A has had so much time to think he comes up with lots of things that begin with the letter A! Everyone agrees that was a marvelous ending and it didn't turn out so bad after all. But they do all agree they should go back to normal, and if Z ever wants to try this again all he needs to do is ask! See this book listed in our catalog
